4 Parental Essentials in Potty Training

Patience Fair warning! There’ll be accidents along the way and times when training progress is slow or even goes backward. Try to remember that it’s all good learning. If you get discouraged, your child will pick up on it. So stay calm, cool and enthusiastic–and just back up a step or two.

Optimism Start out by encouraging Big Kid®️ feelings and celebrating all the little milestones along the way. Cheer for good aim and give a high-five for a successful flush.

TIP: When accidents do happen, stick with confidence-builders like, "We'll do better next time".

Consistency Make sure everyone who cares for your child is on the same page with potty training and is consistent with their approach, products and rewards you use.

TIP: Choose positive words to describe urine and BM, and use them consistently.

Flexibility Potty training is your child’s first big step in becoming more independent. By adjusting your approach to your child's learning style, you'll avoid stress of deadlines that rush learning.
